The Charming Albino Leopard Gecko

Nowadays, attaining a similar gecko home for albino leopard geckos as their natural habitat has become simpler for gecko owners.  Albino leopard geckos naturally live in dry terrain, and hunt for meals during evening.

The breeding of Albino geckos boomed in 1991. Today, there are several breeds with odd skin design.  The albino leopard gecko is a much-loved gecko. The albino leopard gecko has a life expectancy of up to 20 years and could grow up to 20 centimeters long.  The uniqueness of this gecko is displayed with its eyelids and non sticking toe pads, which afford it to climb upwards.  The lack of melanin in the lizard's skin also makes it conspicuous.

An albino leopard gecko likes insects, and also feeds on mealworms. Crickets and wax worms are included in the list.  During the early part of its life, it eats daily, and upon reaching its mature stage, it reduces its feeding habits to every other day.

An albino gecko is normally gentle and can be taken care of with ease.   However, it will hiss when it gets agitated or stressed when wrongfully handled.

Three strains of albino leopard gecko are around today.   These strains, sadly, are recessive.  This means interbreeding your albino geckos has lower probability of getting the albino gecko you desire.

1. The Tremper Strain.  This strain of albino leopard gecko is the most usual of the three strains.  This strain has a brownish colour and is named the "Mocha Strain".  The eye color of this leopard gecko might have the similar colour as a regular gecko but there are those with reddish-coloured eyes.  Its eye and skin colour can change based on the incubation temperature.

2. The Rainwater Strain.  The rainwater strain is commonly known as the Las Vegas Albino.  This is the second most well known strain of the albino leopard gecko.  It usually has a more pinkish colour than the other strains, but it is not always the case. Since an albino gecko's skin colour depends greatly on the incubation temperature, it may not be always be that the rainwater strain is pinker in colour than the other strains.

3. The Bell Strain.  This is the most unique strain of the albino leopard gecko.  The distinction of this strain can be noticed through its eye and skin colour.  The bell strain has a deeperr pink tinge and has the reddest eye colour.  This strain maintains its pink colour even as they develop into the adult stage.

The albino leopard gecko is hypersensitive to light.  This lizard reacts to light by shutting its eyes firmly.  Activity during the day is lessened because of this reason.

The albino leopard gecko, just like humans, can get sick Anorexia.  This situation is aggravated by stress, unclean conditions and sicknesses such as nutritional diseases.  An anorexic gecko has a frail body and tail.  It is also underdeveloped and sluggish.  This illness can also cause its early death.

Similar to other pets, an albino gecko requires a home where it can relish an environment that is free of problems and dirt.

The albino leopard gecko is indeed one captivating animal!
